Kelly's Journey
Hi, I’m Kelly Doan, founder of the Never Stop Believing Foundation, and I’m so glad you’re here.
Our mission is simple: to remind people facing serious medical diagnoses that they are not alone, and that there is always hope.
My own family’s journey has been filled with challenges. Our daughter was born without a hand, later diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 11, and then developed an eating disorder.
In 2018, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and since then, I’ve faced several recurrences.
From the very beginning—when we first walked into Texas Scottish Rite Hospital to learn about our daughter’s hand—we were surrounded by encouragement. The doctors couldn’t change her hand, but they gave us something even greater: belief. They helped her see she could do anything, and they inspired us to never stop believing in the best.
So when she was diagnosed with Type 1 and then developed an eating disorder, I knew what my role was.
That same spirit has carried me through my cancer journey.
During chemo and long hospital stays, I was lifted by an incredible support system—family, friends, and even strangers. A man at my husband’s work once ordered 1,000 “#KellyStrong” bracelets, and suddenly I was spotting them everywhere—even at the pharmacy! That outpouring of love kept me going.
In 2020, I wanted to give that same encouragement to others. I had bracelets made with the words:
“We can totally do this. Never stop believing.”
At first, I wasn’t able to hand them out in person because of the pandemic, so I started mailing them to others in similar situations. Over time, I’ve handed out bracelets at chemo, and every time, I see the same reaction—a smile, a spark of hope, and the words, “Yes, we CAN do this!”
Recently, I celebrated my 50th chemo infusion (and my 58th birthday!). To mark the moment, my husband and I talked about gathering our “cheer squad” for a big celebration. That’s when he suggested something bigger: starting a foundation to share encouragement, hope, and inspiration with even more people.
And so, the Never Stop Believing Foundation was born.
We are here to walk alongside anyone facing a difficult medical journey, to spread hope, and to remind you: you are not alone, and together—we can totally do this.
